Cleaning and polishing should be done at the dental rooms at least twice a year
This is the process by which teeth are debrided of all debris plaque and tar tar(calculus)
Calculus is the build up of a hard substance alond the gum margins of the teeth, it harbours bacteria which in turn causes gum disaese.

A filling is basically : the covering up of a cavity after all decay (rotten material) has been removed.
Fillings can be either silver or white (tooth colored)

Xrays are used in the dental environment as a means to diagnose problems and extent of problems which the naked eye cannot see
There are various types of xrays used in the dental system namely , peri-apical(picture alongside) , panoramic used in detection of wisdom teeth, and occlusal.
Xrays can be harmful to pregnant mothers so please inform the practitioner if you are pregnant.

WHAT IS A CROWN OR CAP
A crown or cap is a porcelin tooth that fits over an existing tooth affording it protection and strength
A crown is usually performed after root canal therapy, on teeth that have large restorations(fillings), or a severely discolored tooth.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS? The process of crown placement entails administration of local anaesthesia, after which the affected tooth is prepared by shaving off the outer enamel forming a peg shaped tooth once drilling is complete a measurement is taken as well as a shade and this measurement is sent off to the laboratory for fabrication of the crown. The waiting period is about 7 working days in the interim a temporary crown will b placed.

Two types of bleaching techniques are available they are the power bleach which is a concoction of powerful chemicals, this type is performed by the practitioner alone
The second type is the take home kits they come in a much weaker concentration these are are given to the patients to perform at home.
Bleaching only works on vital teeth ie living teeth therefore teeth with root canal therapy will not b affected by chemicals
Bleeching does not work on teeth with crowns bridges or fillings
Results may differ from individual to individual.

Flossing invloves the process of cleaning ones teeth in the areas that the brush cannot reach ie inbetween teeth
A piece of floss may be cut to about 30 cm in length and slipped gently into the inter dental spaces flossing should be done in a' C' shaped motion
Flossing must be done daily and can be obtained from any retail stores and pharmacies
YOU DONT HAVE TO BRUSH AND FLOSS ALL YOUR TEETH JUST THE ONES YOU WANT TO SAVE
